Demonstrating Sweet Taste

March 25, 2011 by

Laos is a lovely landlocked country in southeast Asia bordered by Thailand to the west. Two of these countries’ best exports teamed up to sponsor a fantastic demonstration, with Sweet Deal brand ambassadors serving as liaisons of Laos. As spring continues to tease us with the promise of sunshine, flowers, and an eventual glorious summer, Sweet Deal brand ambassadors come to the rescue  by wetting your whistle with a free sample of tropical beer that has traveled all the way from the eastern hemisphere.  At the acclaimed restaurant, Pongsri Thai, in the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan, customers were given the opportunity to discover (or in some cases, rediscover) a great lager to add to their list of good libations. As friends and family sat down to a delicious meal, they were extremely pleased to be offered samples of Beerlao, the national beer of Laos. The Sweet Deal brand ambassadors operating the demonstration know how to make the most of a sweet sample. They poured the delicious tropical lager into the center of the cup so the customer could enjoy the flavor of jasmine rice enhanced by creating a nice head in the beer, and guided them through the experience by asking them to stop and appreciate the fragrance and unusually light taste. Not only did these lucky diners get free beer, but they went home with Beerlao stickers, pins, and information as well. There are  intricacies to promoting a brand that may be new to a certain consumer base. Tasters must not only like the product, but they must also remember to keep it at the top of their grocery lists and know exactly where to get it. Our brand ambassadors for Beerlao had a jolly time with the customers, listening to stories about one diner’s time spent living in Laos, while also delivering all the pertinent information about the product. Our brand ambassadors take time to chat and exchange stories with the people they demonstrate to, intertwining the experience with the product into the warm, friendly conversations about 14th century castles and beautiful rainy seasons in Laos. In the aftermath of St. Patrick’s Day, beer aficionados may be interested in a sweet, unassuming lager that packs all the alcohol content with less of the bulk. If it is company and conversation you are interested in, contact Sweet Deal to put a personal touch on your brand.

Sweet Smoke Services

March 21, 2011 by

Sweet and smoky?  Why yes, the combination does happen and happens quite often here at Sweet Deal!   One of our favorite services to incorporate into an event is our cigar station.  As part of our Event Planning Division, we’ve set up cigar stations at all types of events: weddings, charity golf tournaments, casino events, and more.  At every event it has been at, our clients always report to us that the cigar rolling demonstration was the highlight of their event!

We’ve talked about our cigarette girls, complete with their vintage trays filled with retro candies or cupcakes.  But what we didn’t reveal was that our cigar rollers and cigar girls are just as popular at special events or promotional parties.  Guests at our events always enjoy the aroma of cigars and the high quality of the cigar roller’s education on a wide variety of types, sizes and shapes of smokeables.  We provide the cigars, the roller, a hostess and all the supplies needed for the cigar station to run smoothly and effectively.

Last spring, we set up a special cigar rolling station at the wedding of Valerie and Scott Wheeler.  Our professional cigar roller provided multiple types of stogies and rolled them from scratch, all along sharing the finer points of the art of the cigar with wedding guests.  Krista Mason, the wedding’s photographer, wrote up a great summary of the event at her blog where she showcased her beautiful photos.  Scott, the happy groom, let us know that the cigar station exceeded his expectations: “Everything worked out wonderfully!  We were very happy with both Sweet Deal’s cigar hostess and roller.  All of our guests loved the uniqueness of the cigar bar.  I was even a little surprised how many people were trying cigars, some I think for the very first time.  We had an amazing night and we would like to thank you for providing the excellent services.”

Cigars aren’t only a perfect fit for private parties; they can be that extra something that takes your corporate or promotional event to the next level.  By customizing the labels of your hand rolled cigars with your company’s logo, your existing and future clients will walk away with a memory they won’t easily forget.  By creating an interactive experience for your guests with facts about cigars and your company, this is the perfect way to grab your guests’ attention and add in a lot more fun to the event!

We don’t stop at just the cigar station either!  There are always fun ways to enhance the aura of the cigar roller with complementary services.  At golf tournaments, our cigar rollers and cigar hostesses have been highlighted by Scotch tastings on the green.  A casino event is brought even more to life with a traditional shoe shine and a cigar hostess who will cut and light smokes for the players.  The cigar station is a classy addition to your party, and we know it will become the main focus of your event for smokers and non-smokers alike!  Email us at info@sweetdealin.com if you’d like any more info on our Sweet Smoke Services!

Sweet Deal Cupcake Culture

March 14, 2011 by

Here at Sweet Deal, we LOVE cupcakes.  It’s not a little love, an slightly emphasized love, or even an underlined love.  It’s an all-in-one huge, bold, capitalized, underlined, and italicized LOVE for cupcakes!!  Being a company called “Sweet Deal” naturally means we love sweet things, so cupcakes were an obvious mascot for our Sweet team from the very beginning.  From office birthday parties to event sponsorships and street teams, we can’t help but infuse cupcakes into our very own day-to-day Sweet happenings.

One of our first new clients in 2008 was Crumbs Bakeshop.  If you are cupcake fan at all, you most likely know about their signature “colossal” cupcakes  with scrumptious flavors like Blackbottom Cheesecake Brownie and White Hot Chocolate.  Our brand ambassadors handed out thousands of Crumbs flyers over the course of a month across the nation, spreading Crumbs brand awareness at festivals, movie theatres, malls, in Times Square and other high-traffic areas.  No one (even you reader, we know it!) can pass up a free sweet treat, so when our models offered coupons for a free Crumbs Bakeshop cupcake, people lined up inside, outside, and around the block to get a taste.

Our Crumbs Cupcake Street Team

Our Crumbs Cupcake Street Team

Our love of cupcakes even extends to our sponsorship division, where we connect our food and beverage clients and friends with exciting event opportunities.  By doing this, we can provide great exposure opportunites to emerging brands, and in turn offer exciting product placements for event planners! (If you’d like to hear more about getting involved with our sponsorship division—as either an event planner or product—please email us at sponsorships@sweetdealin.com).  At a special fashion event for Misis, an absolutely beautiful jewelry line from Italy, our friend Sarah Hileman from CutieCakes sponsored the event by providing hundreds of mini cupcakes.  Our models tray passed the cupcakes to jewelry customers at the special Bloomingdales’ trunk show.  By sponsoring the event, Sarah was able to expose new people to her tasty treats, and our clients with Misis were able to create a memorable event full of sweetness!

Just as our clients love to promote their cupcakes, we at the Sweet Deal office love to eat their cucpakes!  Once a month, we will break from our intense program management and have some fun with our team during our “Cupcakes & Champagne Hour.”  We invite nearby clients and spokes models to join in on the fun so we can all relax together after a long yet rewarding month of promotions and events.  Cupcakes truly are our favorite treat, and we are happy to have some great clients on board who share their sweetness with all of us!

Smiling Is Good for Business at Professional Conferences and Expos

March 10, 2011 by

In the exciting, rapidly evolving world of digital media, leading companies must be able to engage with other movers and shakers in the market. To be able to demonstrate the full meaning of the word ‘engage’, a spokesmodel trained to represent a cutting edge digital media company must be impressive and well informed. Sweetness goes a long way, but a nuanced understanding of our clients’ professional operations takes a networking opportunity even further–From strictly business to business and fun. Our intelligent spokesmodels strive to represent your business with exemplary professionalism and memorable charm.PaymentOne, a valued client that connects digital merchants and network operators by providing secure, easy third party billing, attended the Engage 2011 Conference and Expo at The Javits Convention Center in NYC. To take full advantage of a conference, executives usually attempt to be in many different places at once: business meetings, keynote addresses, other booths, etc. Our clients can feel confident that their booths are being gracefully represented as they make their appointments. The Engage 2011 Conference and Expo took place alongside the American International Toy Fair, allowing attendees from the digital concept and programming side to interact with the buyers and exhibitors. United under the same roof, the business opportunities were ripe. Our savvy spokesmodels know exactly how to capitalize on such opportunities. A natural communicator, she explains the basic concept of PaymentOne to an interested passerby, remaining conscious of the nametag around his neck and his interest in the company she represents on the tradeshow floor to ensure that she delivers information that is precise and relevant. A sweet model practices an effortless interpersonal zeal at all times, which is very important when making impressions on potential business partners. Even more important, however, is the preparation that she receives in order to effectively market her client. Commanding the booth by collecting and handing out business cards, fielding questions, making connections, and reporting to the client keep her on her toes. She’ll also help you set up your fussy banners and displays and come up with solutions for any problems that may arise. Our models are handy! If you are interested in hiring a capable spokesmodel with experience working professional conferences, expositions, and tradeshows, you may consult our model registry, or we’ll happily provide a model with the desired qualifications. Please contact info@sweetdealin.com.

Speakeasy Fever!

March 7, 2011 by

Everywhere I look lately is the word speakeasy.  It harkens back to the days when alcohol was barred and gangsters prowled.  It recalls the plumes of smoke wafting up from hidden underground bars and the hushed sounds of casino gambling.  Be it an event that Sweet Deal is part of, an old-style bar opening up on either coast, or an inspired cocktail from the traditional drinks, speakeasy is all the rage today.  From my own experience I must say that there is something grand, luxurious and just plain fun about hamming it up flapper-style while sipping on a tasty Negroni!!

As a Sweet Dealer, I’ve taken part in my own speakeasy style event in San Francisco last September.  Of course, nowadays alcohol is allowed to flow freely and it surely did at this “Ragtag Rabble Soiree” seeing as the event was part of San Francisco’s Cocktail Week.  We Sweet Dealers donned our best vintage-inspired garb; jewels, feathers, and boas included.  Top mixologists whipped up classic cocktails with modern day twists, burlesque dancers and musicians performed their trifles and Sweet Deal’s casino dealers served up a gaming frenzy.   I dealt craps to a crowd that was having the time of their lives, throwing the die with such enthusiasm and force that I had to chase after the runaway dice under the tables all night!  You can see some of the photos from that event here.

Just as our casino event was tucked into the back hidden room of the quaint Crescent Hotel in San Francisco, obscure spots with secret entrances are popping up all over the nation from Santa Monica (http://www.yelp.com/biz/basement-tavern-santa-monica) to Brooklyn (http://raineslawroom.com).  The hidden gems always have a secretive feel, yet never exclusive.  They open up their arms to anyone who may encounter their veiled doorways and feel the urge to sway with the string trio playing a soft lilting tune inside.  Of course, a speakeasy wouldn’t be a speakeasy without the ultimate forbidden pleasure: fiercely delicious cocktails.  Around the modern day speakeasy has evolved a rich and unique world of mixology.  Bartenders take their inspiration from the old drink standards like the Manhattan & Old Fashioned, but then add a unique twist that makes it oh so nouveau…and might I add, oh so scrumptious!

The speakeasy style of mixology has started a renaissance of the cocktail across the country.  No longer is the art of a cocktail strictly found in exclusive high-end bars.  Now, everywhere you look you will see unique cocktails on the menus of local restaurants and hotel bars.  The speakeasy is no longer a quiet movement, peeking out with secrets from underground; it is a mainstay in the American tradition of  enjoying the simple pleasures in life: good drinks, good eats, good company, and good times!

A Profile of a Sweet Deal Spokes Model

February 28, 2011 by

Definition of a Sweet Deal Spokes Model : A girl or guy who is intelligent, energetic, passionate about event marketing and most of all, sweet as can be!

We are constantly on the search for fantastic new spokes models to join our Sweet Roster.  Across the nation from Chicago to San Diego and Portland, we hold castings every month to interview potential new employees.  As our business has grown from a small group of poker dealers to a nationwide promotional staffing & creative marketing agency, there is one connecting trait of all of our staff that we have maintained to this day: Sweetness.  Sweetness is the ability to genuinely connect with customers or event-goers on a personal level with pep and enthusiasm!

When we started to branch out into event marketing years back, we found that models from other promotional agencies lacked a certain spunk, a certain passion in their demeanor at events.  This isn’t to say they didn’t have the Sweetness in them, but they hadn’t been trained to bring out their best qualities within a promotional setting.  So we set out to fill the hole and create a new team who would bring their passion for life and marketing into every event they worked.  Now here we are, finding ourselves with a team of thousands of handpicked Sweets across the country!!

Our Sweet Deal models are punctual and intelligent.  They study brand facts with our project managers and make sure they know how to articulate every product message persuasively.  Our Sweet Deal models are energetic and spirited.  They know to ‘show up’ to every event, leaving the rest of their day out the door and fully committing themselves to the task at hand.  Our Sweet Deal models are experienced and professional.  They have experience in the promotional world & know how to appropriately interact with consumers, managers, and other staff members alike.

Our interview process differs from many agencies, as we hire our models as employees and do a full background and reference check before hiring them.  They meet with two or three of our representatives who get to know them fully through extensive questioning ranging from their promotional experience to their favorite hobbies.  We always put our newer or less experienced spokes models on test events to see if they are a right fit for our Sweet Team, and then asses their performance until we think they are ready to be brought on board.  Even though we’ve sat down and spoken to thousands of promotional spokes models across the country, we always strive to keep the integrity of our interview process with each individual.  We know how important this is in order to provide the best staff possible for our company and for our clients.

If you think you have the qualities it takes to be one of our Sweets, keep updated on casting announcements via our Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/sweetdealin

Madness in March!

February 22, 2011 by

With the buzz from the Super Bowl dying down, sports fanatics are already looking for their next reason to party.  Good thing March Madness is right around the corner!!!  With Selection Sunday just 19 days away, there’s just enough time to plan the perfect party.  Throw your party on Selection Sunday to root for your favorite college or wait until April 3rd to watch the final four showdown which will be held in Indianapolis this year. Who are you rooting for?

Here are some tips to make your party a Slam-Dunk:

Decorations: Orange and Black are good neutral colors for a basketball themed party, or be a supportive fan and go with your favorite teams colors!  We’re divided between many teams: ASU, San Diego State, USC. it’s a hard choice!!

Dress: Wear anything from a ref tee and whistle to a jersey from your favorite team.  Our staff has dressed as referees at past parties to keep the guests in line!

Trivia: Tests your guests’ knowledge of NCAA with some basketball trivia. (Did you know UCLA has won the most championships with 11 victories?)

Need some help finding trivia? This website has tons of quizzes and answers. http://www.funtrivia.com/quizzes/sports/ncaa_basketball/ncaa_march_madness.html

Party Games:  Before the game starts, might as well put a little money down with a betting board to raise the party stakes!  If you have a basketball hoop, challenge your guests to a game outside in between quarters. Or if exercise isn’t your thing, play some basketball themed video games like EA’s NCAA March Madness to give your fingers a work out instead.

Food: Finger Food! Try this recipe your guests can dunk into. Serve with pretzels.  We’re already getting hungry just looking at this!!

Beer Dip
Ingredients:

1 package Hidden Valley dip mix (original flavor)
2 8-oz. packages cream cheese
6 oz. beer (of your choice)
6 oz. shredded cheddar cheese
pretzels

Just mix the ingredients and chill.

http://www.celebrations.com/article/Throw-a-March-Madness-Mixer

Drinks: What’s a sports party without beer? But if you want to mix it up a little try this cocktail.

 3-Point Basket (Zombie)
1 shot dark rum (we recommend Skyy Spirits’ Flor De Cana Rum http://www.flordecana.com/)
1 shot white rum
1 shot gold/spiced rum
1/2 shot apricot brandy
1/2 shot lime juice
1/2 shot pineapple juice
A dash of sugar

Sweet Additions:  Cocktail waitresses or bartenders dressed as referees, to make sure the party is kept in line!  How about a betting board where guests can pick a square and win some moolah!

Demos…More Than Just a Free Sample

February 20, 2011 by

Alexis at her Dry Soda demo in Nevada

If you’ve kept up with Sweet Deal lately, you know that our spokes models do a lot of demos in grocery stores.  You’ve probably seen photos where they are standing near a demo table posing with different products.  But you may be wondering: what exactly is a demo?

A demo is an interactive event experience designed to spread awareness about a certain product or service.  You’ve seen a demo when you walk into Whole Foods and a brand ambassador is pouring samples of Dry Soda. You’ve seen a demo when a spokes model approaches you to let you know popchips are on sale that day and then lets you try multiple flavors so you know how scrumptious they are.  Whenever you interact with a brand ambassador within a store setting, you are part of a demo experience!!

Here at Sweet Deal, in-store demos are our business and we pride ourselves in working hand in hand with our clients to create memorable and unique demo experiences for their customers.  For instance, instead of merely having our demo models cut cheese and pass out samples, we took the demo program for Champignon Cheese a step further.  We dressed our models in authentic German dirndls and taught them German phrases (“Ich liebe Champignon!!) in order to promote Cambazola Black Label blue cheese.  The results were astounding, with our frauleins selling through multiple wheels of cheese in just a few hours.  The program was such a success that it has now expanded to 4 more cities and is continuing its tour across the country.

Fraulein Anna in Chicago for Champignon Cheese

Fraulein Anna in Chicago for Champignon Cheese

When we begin to create a demo program, we start with the basics: what is the product and what is the message that needs to be relayed?  We then cast the perfect spokes model for the brand and train them on product info and sales tips.  But the final touches are where we have the most fun!  We brainstorm innovative ideas on how to creatively reach customers; be it a free sample, a colorful display, an attention grabbing sign, or a contest.  Whatever it is, we stay true to the brand identity and relay the product message with pep, enthusiasm, and of course, a little sweetness!

After the demo is done, our models record everything that occurred during their time at the store in a post-event recap.  We gather all the data in order to provide our clients with a comprehensive analysis of the event: how many people were sampled, sales numbers, customer comments, and more!  We’ve got the in-store demo down to a science here at Sweet Deal, from creation to implementation and then analysis.

A Demo for Purista in Los Angeles

In addition to the programs mentioned in this post, we’ve created many other demo programs with our clients:

  • X-Rated Fusion Liqueur
  • SKYY Infusions
  • Mike’s Hard Lemonade
  • Hacienda Vieja Tequila
  • Crystal Head Vodka
  • Purista Non-Alcoholic Mixers
  • And more!!

Next time you step into a grocery store, keep an eye out for a demo and make sure to try a sample.  Maybe one day you’ll run into one of our own demo experiences.  When you do, you’ll surely be in for a Sweet Deal Demo Treat!!

Becoming A Sweet Poker Dealer

February 14, 2011 by

This is a guest post by Quinn W.  She is a promotional spokes model for Sweet Deal who has gone through our casino training programs for our craps, poker, and blackjack teams in Southern California.

If you are interested in becoming a Sweet Deal poker dealer, we are setting up a new training class soon.  Email molly@sweetdealin.com for more information on starting your journey towards become a Sweet Casino Dealer!!

“Little old me… a poker dealer?  I’ll never remember the suits, the winning hands, or the payouts.  Actually, I don’t even know what those terms mean!!”

Here is me dealing at a tournament in San Diego!

This was me: completely and utterly clueless when it came to the game of poker.  Aside from my beginner’s luck when I won the only poker game I ever played (I was 10 years old so I wouldn’t exactly call it skill), I didn’t know a thing other than what I learned from James Bond in Casino Royale.

But here I found myself working for a company called Sweet Deal as a spokes model, and I’m asked to join their trained roster of Sweet Deal poker dealers.  I had worked as a hostess at a few of their charity casino tournaments in the past, and I was amazed by the skill and professionalism of the dealers.  The guests always seemed to have a blast too!

I decided I had nothing to lose so I pushed my chips “all-in” and I joined the Sweet Deal poker training program.  The management at Sweet Deal had a whole program set up for their new dealers, so when it came time to “shuffle up and deal” at their casino events, I felt completely prepared.  The Sweet Deal poker dealer training program was informative, comprehensive, and fun!!  Jim Fitzgerald is the main instructor, and he is a very clear teacher of the techniques and tools a dealer will need throughout a tournament.

Taide at a corporate casino night in Palm Springs

Here is a little rundown of the training so you know what you are committing to if you are interested in becoming a dealer:

Intro Class: A class for girls (and guys!) who are interested in the training.  The instructor, Jim Fitzgerald, talks you through the basics of the game and you get a chance to sit in the dealer chair for a few hands.

Training Sessions: You will attend weekly training sessions until you are approved to move forward.  The duration of these sessions really depends on how quickly you progress.  You are taught the ins and outs of the game from both the dealer’s and player’s perspective, and then you put the techniques into practice.

Practice Games:  Once Sweet Deal and Jim feel you are ready to move on, you are thrown into a practice game!  10 players gather around the table and you act as if this is a real deal.  The pace is quick and you must stay on your toes.  Jim is always there to offer tips and advice, so there is no need to be nervous.  This is the best training you can have in preparation for Sweet Deal’s casino events.

Simone at the Playboy Mansion Pre-ESPY Charity Tournament

All in all, I enjoyed my time in the Sweet Deal training program and have had so much fun working the events.  I’ve been able to deal at Sweet Deal’s casino events all across Southern California: school fundraisers, golf tournaments, Hollywood parties, and the Playboy Mansion!  It’s good to be a Sweet Dealin’ lady!
